The Minister for Transport has praised Delta Air Lines for its commitment, resilience, and dedicated air transport service to Ghana over the past twenty (20) years.
Speaking at the 20th Anniversary Celebration, on behalf of the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Managing Director (MD) of the Ghana Airport Company Limited, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, noted that the Government of Ghana deeply appreciates the confidence and trust that Delta Air Lines has consistently demonstrated in Ghana’s aviation sector, even during periods of global uncertainty that posed significant challenges to the aviation industry worldwide.
According to the Minister, the airline’s resilience and unwavering dedication during difficult times underscore the enduring strength of the partnership between Ghana and Delta Air Lines. He indicated that the anniversary celebration was not only about marking two decades of airline operations in Ghana but also about celebrating a relationship built on trust, consistency, shared progress, and mutual benefit.
He stressed the critical role of aviation in national development, stating that the sector continues to catalyse economic growth, regional integration, tourism promotion, investment attraction, and international connectivity. He observed that efficient and reliable air transport remains essential to enhancing business opportunities, facilitating trade, and connecting people and cultures across the globe.
The Hon. Minister further highlighted Ghana’s strategic position as a gateway to West Africa and beyond, noting that the country remains an attractive destination for international airlines and investors due to its political stability, favourable business environment, and growing aviation infrastructure.
He reiterated the Government’s commitment under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama to creating an enabling environment that supports airlines, investors, and strategic partners. This commitment, he explained, is being pursued through continuous improvements in aviation infrastructure, operational efficiency, safety and security standards, innovation, and enhanced air connectivity.
He further stated that the Government recognises the indispensable role played by international carriers such as Delta Air Lines in strengthening Ghana’s connectivity to the rest of the world and supporting the country’s ambition of becoming a leading aviation hub in the sub-region.
Acknowledging the contribution of Delta Air Lines to strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and the United States, he noted that the airline has served as an important bridge connecting businesses, tourists, investors, students, families, and communities across the two countries over the last two decades.
The Minister congratulated the management and staff of Delta Air Lines for their outstanding contributions to Ghana’s aviation industry and expressed appreciation for their dedication, professionalism, and continued partnership. He commended the airline for maintaining confidence in the Ghanaian market and for contributing to the growth and development of the country’s aviation ecosystem.
He called for sustained collaboration among government, aviation stakeholders, development partners, and international airlines to build a safer, stronger, and more connected aviation industry that will continue to drive economic transformation and regional integration.
The Ministry of Transport remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders in the aviation sector to promote sustainable growth, improve connectivity, and position Ghana as a preferred aviation destination in Africa.
