Commuters across Ghana are set to benefit from a 15% reduction in public transport fares, effective Saturday, May 24th, 2025. The announcement was formalized in a press release signed by Mr. Godfred Abulbire, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), and the General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, and presented to the sector Minister, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe.
The decision is a response to decreasing fuel prices, the appreciation of the Ghana cedi, and other contributing economic factors.
The 15% fare reduction will apply to shared taxis, intra-city (trotros), intercity (long-distance), and haulage services.
The GPRTU and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council are urging all transport operators to adhere to the new pricing structure.
This measure is anticipated to positively impact the cost of living for many Ghanaians and represents a significant step forward for the transport sector.
