The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Ghana has held its handing-over to a new leadership and inaugurated the 9th Governing Council.
Presenting a goodwill message on behalf of the Minister for Transport, Mr. Merlyn G.J. Gaskin, the Director for Research, Statistics, and Information Management at the Ministry, highlighted the importance of CILT in Ghana’s transport sector. He urged the newly inaugurated council to serve diligently, stressing that their leadership and dedication would be essential to the growth and development of the sector.
Mr. Gaskin stated that the transport industry was a highly dynamic and ever-evolving industry and required practitioners to stay up to date with evolving trends in managing the day-to-day product flow or responding to unexpected shocks within the transport and logistics value chain.
He reiterated this required that the necessary infrastructure and services were in place to promote the seamless movement of goods, people, and information. The ultimate goal was to create a seamless integrated system that delivered maximum value to all and sundry while minimising cost.
The Director revealed that the government was embarking on a sustained programme to improve and modernise transport infrastructure and services through road network rehabilitation and expansion under the Big Push Agenda, railway rehabilitation and redevelopment, expansion and rehabilitation of port facilities, and the modernisation of our airports, as well as promotion sustainable transportation systems.
He further noted that CILT Ghana was unquestionably a strong and dependable partner in the country’s development journey, especially through its unwavering dedication to upholding industry standards, improving professional skills, and advocating for policies that improve and modernise the transport sector.
He thanked the outgoing Council Members of the institute for their excellent working relationship with the ministry over the past years to advance the transport sector. To the newly sworn-in Council Members, he noted that their leadership and dedication would be instrumental in shaping the future of the industry.
He encouraged them to continue promoting collaboration with government, industry stakeholders, and academia to advance innovation, professionalism, and inclusive growth within the sector.
