TRANSPORT MINISTER INAUGURATES GOVERNING BOARD

The Minister for Transport, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, has called on board members to work assiduously in addressing challenges that affect their respective Agencies, this, he noted will help the country achieve its vision for the transport sector towards the industrial transformation of Ghana.

He underscored the role Board Members play in accelerating economic activities to promote GDP growth. “The transport sector is among the key sectors well positioned to provide service, improve and build infrastructure, and play a pivotal role in the economic development process of the country and therefore Board Members should guide their Agencies achieve this” he stated.

The Minister made this observation when he inaugurated four governing Boards under the Ministry consisting of the Ghana Maritime Authority, the Ghana Shippers Authority, the National Road Safety Authority and the Driver and Vehicle licensing Authority.

Hon. Ofori Asiamah reminded the Board members, that under the governance framework, they were under the supervision of the Ministry and for that matter report directly to the Ministry and should not under any circumstance deal with any authority above the Ministry without duly consulting the Ministry.

He cautioned the Board Members that they were on the Board because they were to collaborate with their Agencies to see to the improved performance of the Agency. He added they were not being put on the Governing Boards to go and have misunderstandings or struggle for power with management and staff of the Agencies. “I will not hesitate to recommend the removal of any Board Member who does not contribute to the growth of the Agency they have been tasked to served”, he cautioned.

The Minister mentioned that, digital infrastructure had helped these Agencies to work efficiently over the years to the satisfaction of Ghanaians and called on Board Members to bring their expertise to bear to improve digitalization and service delivery within their respective Agencies.

Speaking on behalf of the inaugurated Governing Boards, Chairperson for the Ghana Shippers Authority, Madam Stella Wilson said they were ready for the challenge and the task given to them serve. “We have been entrusted with a responsibility to service and deliver on the responsibility”, she added.

Mrs. Wilson mentioned they would collaborate with their various Agency management to see the vision of the Agencies and their appointing authority materialize.

She thanked the President and the Ministry for reposing trust in them and appointing them to serve on the boards. She promised they would deliver and not disappoint the President and the Ministry.
